Granite State Comicon 2023 – Day 1 ...

eva as Technoblade

Today I took Eva to the Granite State Comicon in Manchester, NH. The con is one that we have enjoyed going to since our first family trip in 2018. I did attend the very first one way back when they started because I was friends with the organizers. I still am and love to see them at the show each year.

our cosplay materials

We packed up the car with our materials for our costumes. Eva was showcasing two of her characters this time out with one on Saturday and one on Sunday. This meant a couple of wigs plus my wig for my costume. We arrived at the convention just as they opened the showroom floor and we got our passes and made a first pass through the entire show. We would do this several more times throughout the weekend because that is what we do, w tour the floors and then go to a couple of the panels.

Eva’s cosplay is of a character called Technoblade. I was doing an original character and when I got to the con I immediately picked up a foam sword to carry around. This is an interesting one with a black blade and what looks like a hand brake for a motorcycle and two parts of brass knuckles. It went with my costume which had a very tech heavy look.

We attended a couple of panels. One on doing makeup and special effects using latex and the other on using different materials in cosplay. I think that Eva enjoyed both of these and got some good ideas. We were able to check into the room at 3pm and I did that on the app and when it was time we went to the car and got our luggage. I stayed in the room for a bit to relax. My head was hurting from my wig which was very tight. It was so tight that I had a line across my head from it.

I did make it back downstairs to see the costume contest. Eva did not enter this year but there were many great costumes to see. She had a great time and then we headed to get some dinner.

We were going to try and get dinner at Cactus Jack’s because they are closing at the end of the year and that was one place that we enjoyed when we were in NH in the past. However, even at 7:30 or so there was a 40 minute wait for two people. We decided that that was too long so we ended up over at T-Bones for dinner instead. Another NH restaurant that I enjoyed when I lived there. It was early to bed tonight because we were exhausted and we still had another day at the con tomorrow.

Sorting Transformers ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02424 Yesterday I drove Andy to school. Today I walked over with them. I did so not because I didn't think Andy would be safe on their own. Andy has been walking home from school for well over a year so walking to school is the same thing just in reverse. I wanted to see how long it actually took for the walk to go. I of course, over estimated how early we had to head over. The walk itself only takes a brisk 15 minutes. And that is at a modified teenager's shuffle. So Andy can leave the house around 6:25-6:30 and still get there by 6:45 when the doors open to the High School. Good to know. During the day I started one of the projects I've been meaning to start and have been putting off. I'm sorting through my Transformers and getting them ready to sell. I have talked with the guys at Double Midnight Comics about selling them my collection. Not the stuff I have on display and also I am picking out some figures that I want to keep as part of the collectio...

Time with Lexi ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02401 Today We watched my sister's dog, Lexi. My sister and her husband were coming back up here from their home and they had boarded the dog. They weren't sure if they'd be there in time to pick her up so we did that for them. We had Lexi for a couple of hours before they arrived and we had dinner together. Lexi was pretty chill for the most part until Torrun came in to the living room to investigate. At first they just looked at each other. Andy grabbed for LEXI's leash and then Lexi tried to go after Torrun. Torrun ended up bolting for the upstairs and we did not see her for hours. James knew enough not to even come down.

Time For Another Change ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02402 Andy decided to clean their room today. In so doing they decided that they no longer wish to hang on to their LEGO sets. So, I now have them all and I spent the afternoon disassembling many sets to fit into the one bucket. There were many Minecraft sets in there. What I'm going to do eventually is take what is in the bucket and separate it down to the individual sets that I still have instructions books for. The organizing of that is going to be daunting. I will try and figure out an efficient way to separate everything but I'm sure that will take some time. Andy also decided that they no longer want the piggy bank that was mine. That I am putting into a box for Andy for when they get older and maybe have kids of their own.
