Granite State Comicon 2025 Day 1 ...

Eva at the Cosplay Contest

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02440

This morning Eva and I headed up to New Hampshire for the Granite State Comicon. This is an event that we attend together every year and each year we have more fun. This year Eva worked so hard on a cosplay costume that really spoke to her. She is cosplaying as a character from her favorite book, The spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White. Her character is that of Silas Bell. Eva spent months designing the costume from the ground up. From working on the pattern to making mock ups to embroidery to so many other details too numerous to mention. Eva did an outstanding job.

This was the first time participating in the contest since 2018. This year Eva met a number of other cosplayers and made some new friends. Eva also got to catch up with several of friends that they made over the past few years. Eva's friends also participated in the contest. While none of them won any of the prizes they did have great experiences.

Eva and I arrived close to 10am and took a few laps around the amory and the exhibit hall.We looked at many things and noted the things that we would be interested in returning to look closer at or to purchase. We did not attend any of the panels this year because the guests that we had wanted to see had to cancel. It is too bad because I know how hard my friends Chris and Scott Proulx and Brett Parker work on the show.

Eva and I caught lunch at a place called Diz's Diner, a recommendation f rom Chris. The food was excellent. As we walked back to the show Eva noticed a bookstore and suggested that we got here the next morning. When we got back Eva caught up with their friends and I met up with one of my old friends, Ken Belbin. Ken and I had started chatting a little while back. I was going through some of my stuff and found some G.I. Joe items that I wanted to give to him. So we made a plan to connect. We did and I was able to give Ken a bunch of comics and some figures.

I had two figures that my Great Uncle Richard had had in his closet when he passed. My parents found them and gave them to me. I hung onto them for years. G.I. Joe was never my big thing. I enjoyed the show and occasionally picked up some comics but Transformers was my thing. So I decided to give Ken one of these original figures. He just about lost his mind. Not over the figure itself. I don't even think the particular figure even registered to him. What got hims so excited as the sticker on the box was from Ann & Hope. Ken worked at Ann & Hope and still remembered the codes used when he had worked the register. He could still remember the codes for a bottle of Coke and a bottle of Pepsi. He knew immediately that "A 10" meant toys.

Then it was time for the costume contest. Ken got there too late to get a pass but was able to stand outside the room and see the contest. He stayed till the end but left before Eva was able to leave. I think that next year Ken may come up with his kids and see the whole show.

Eva and I went up to the hotel room so Eva could relax after a long day int eh costume. I ran across the street and got us dinner from a Japanese restaurant. Then I went to an event that I had bought tickets for, a showing of Batman Beyond: the Return of The Joker. It was supposed to have a Q &A session with Will Friedel the voice of the main character but he was one of the guests who cancelled. But, I had bought a ticket so I went and was late so I missed most of the beginning of the movie. When Will cancelled the theater sent a message stating that the event would now start at 7:30 instead of 7pm because that was the alloted time for Wills Q & A. But the movie started at 7pm and I had gotten there at 7:45. It was still fun and I got a couple of Batman comics for attending.

Also, I was once again Bobby Singer from Supernatural. When we went to the Cosplace earlier int eh day there was another cosplayer there who was also a Supernatural character. We got a photo together.

After the cosplay contest I wanted a photo with Eva since we did not get that many last year. So I saw that same cosplayer and asked her if she's take a photo of Eva and me.

It was a great event and I look forward to what Eva brings to the contest next year.

Sorting Transformers ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02424 Yesterday I drove Andy to school. Today I walked over with them. I did so not because I didn't think Andy would be safe on their own. Andy has been walking home from school for well over a year so walking to school is the same thing just in reverse. I wanted to see how long it actually took for the walk to go. I of course, over estimated how early we had to head over. The walk itself only takes a brisk 15 minutes. And that is at a modified teenager's shuffle. So Andy can leave the house around 6:25-6:30 and still get there by 6:45 when the doors open to the High School. Good to know. During the day I started one of the projects I've been meaning to start and have been putting off. I'm sorting through my Transformers and getting them ready to sell. I have talked with the guys at Double Midnight Comics about selling them my collection. Not the stuff I have on display and also I am picking out some figures that I want to keep as part of the collectio...

Time with Lexi ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02401 Today We watched my sister's dog, Lexi. My sister and her husband were coming back up here from their home and they had boarded the dog. They weren't sure if they'd be there in time to pick her up so we did that for them. We had Lexi for a couple of hours before they arrived and we had dinner together. Lexi was pretty chill for the most part until Torrun came in to the living room to investigate. At first they just looked at each other. Andy grabbed for LEXI's leash and then Lexi tried to go after Torrun. Torrun ended up bolting for the upstairs and we did not see her for hours. James knew enough not to even come down.

Time For Another Change ...

Photo-A-Day 2.0 #02402 Andy decided to clean their room today. In so doing they decided that they no longer wish to hang on to their LEGO sets. So, I now have them all and I spent the afternoon disassembling many sets to fit into the one bucket. There were many Minecraft sets in there. What I'm going to do eventually is take what is in the bucket and separate it down to the individual sets that I still have instructions books for. The organizing of that is going to be daunting. I will try and figure out an efficient way to separate everything but I'm sure that will take some time. Andy also decided that they no longer want the piggy bank that was mine. That I am putting into a box for Andy for when they get older and maybe have kids of their own.
